Spotting a Planetary Grinder
The base of a planetary grinder consists of a large main disc. Three smaller discs mount to the main disc, and these
smaller discs turn at a different speed than the main disc. The smaller discs all lie along the same plane and make contact
with the floor simultaneously, while the larger main disc lies on a different plane and does not make contact with the floor.
Planetary Grinder Applications
Planetary grinders are generally the more lightweight of the two types of concrete floor grinders, making them easier to manipulate. Their design allows them to move in a straight line across the floor with relative ease, which means greater flexibility and less struggle for operators. Thanks to their lightweight design, planetary grinders work best on less aggressive jobs, such as smoothing out a concrete floor or preparing a residential garage floor for an epoxy coating. They can also be
used for polishing but generally require a skilled operator for this type of work.
